My new (well 3 years old) flat screen LCD Toshiba TV now shows lines on the screen. What happened there? It’s not as if I went for the cheapest brand either. I will have to trade it in and get a new one. That’s probably the shelf life of mass produced consumer durables – 3-5 years. Cheap plastic goods probably put together by mechanical robots in a large factory.
Which is why I am proud we sell the type of goods we sell. Hand made by skilled craft and tradesman to centuries old traditions in workshops in England. I am probably particularly talking about our table and chair sets – they just reek of quality and hark back to an older era where guilds of craftsman would lovingly make all goods. A time when consumer durables were just that – durable. In fact so durable items made 400 years ago are still around today and command vase prices exactly because of that. Hand turned on a lathe, hammered and carved, chiseled and assembled, these table and chair sets will still be around in 300 years to come.
Walnut Dining Set
So not only will you be able to sit around the table and chairs and dine in true quality. You can sit comfortably knowing your purchase is an investment as it will only ever increase in value.
In these uncertain times of economic turmoil and unemployment, I often look back through rose tinted glasses to a time when old industries (like furniture and cabinet making) thrived. Trades and skills were passed down father to son. Products were made with love and care and built to last. That’s exactly how these table and chairs are still made today. Buy a piece of history and support the local economy.
We have a large range of dining furniture. Farmhouse furniture – refectory tables and chairs, oak spindleback chairs, ladderbacks, windsor chairs. Victorian dining tables, Regency pedestal tables, Chippendale chairs, Regency chairs, mahogany and walnut dining chairs.
