Mahogany Chippendale Style Kidney Shaped Writing Table. Standing on swept legs with boldly carved ball and claw feet and deeply carved acanthus leaves to the top of the leg. Circa 1900 There is an arrangement of 5 Mahogany lined drawers with original handles and locks. The top featuring carved gadrooned moldings and a green leather writing surface (replacement) with gilt and blind tooling. In very good condition. This item is free standing Size: Height 29 1/2″ (75cm) Width 41 1/2″ (105cm) Depth 22 1/2″ (57cm) Kneehole height 23″ (58cm)

Victorian Plum Pudding Mahogany Kidney Desk Writing Table

Spectacular Victorian Plum Pudding Mahogany Kidney Shaped Writing Desk.
Standing on tapered legs with boxwood inlays and spade feet.
Each of the graduated oak lined drawers having original locks and gilt cast handles (note the fine hand cut dovetails)
Circa 1880
The crossbanded top with boxwood line Inlays, the green leather writing surface (replacement) features gilt and blind tooling.
This piece is freestanding and in excellent condition. The whole desk is decorated with satinwood crossbanded panels.
Note:Plum Pudding Mahogany so called because the blemishes in the grain resemble raisins in a plum pudding and is widely regarded as the finest grade of Mahogany Veneers available at the time of manufacture.

You are viewing a gorgeous kidney bean shaped desk in the English Victorian style and hand crafted from the finest, sumptuous walnut. The desk is covered in a lovely brown tooled leather with gold leaf banding to the perimeter and it is very comfortable to work on making this perfect for your home or office (or home office).

The piece has nine drawers, one of which is a double file drawer. You can only imagine the amount of time and craftmanship that would have gone into a desk like this. The desk is also unusual in that at the back there are two cupboards that open out so there is yet more storage space for all those files and books – you can see this with our photos.

Aesthetically it has a dainty, stylish quality to it but it is also very practical with ample work surface space and the ten brass handled drawers to the front for all your storage needs. The piece is offered in perfect condition and ready for home use right away. The great thing also is that this can be free standing in the middle of a room as the back is great to display.

It is built to last and will serve you for many generations and we are expecting a lot of interest in this fine specimen so get your bids in early. We bought this from a dealer we visit on London’s Camden Passage in Islington.
