You are viewing a gorgeous art nouveau style bronze casting of what looks to be like a fairy of sorts. The piece is entitled Playtime and is signed by Harriet Frishmuth. We have not had a chance to find out much about this artist so if anyone has any further details please feel free to email in.
What we do know is that this casting is of the highest quality and would make for a great addition to any home interiors scheme. The piece is over two feet tall so it’s quite an impressive work. This is a later recasting from the original.
The lady is tall and thin, elfin like, perhaps a fairy, nymph or pixies. She stands on tip toe. The artist has really caught her features with great skill. The signature is on the base and she in turn stands on a black marble base. She is offered in very good condition ready for home use right away and we will ship to anywhere in the world.

CLICK HERE TO BUY THIS CHIPARUS BRONZE ART DECO STARFISH DANCER FIGURINE ON CANONBURY ANTIQUES
You are viewing an outstanding Scupture of the ‘Starfish Dancer’, by Demetre Chiparus, master sculptor of the Art Deco period. It’s a delightful, charming piece depicting a young lady in an almost Arabesque pose but wearing typical clothes of the twenties. It would make for a great collectable decorative piece for your home. Demetre H. Chiparus was born in Romania in 1886 and then travelled to Paris before World War I to become more involved with his artwork. This is a later recasting from the original.
He attended school in Italy and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and he exhibited at the Salon in 1914. Chiparus was particularly adept in the technique of chryselephantine, the combination of bronze and ivory to produce dramatic, stylized sculpture. He produced most of his renowned works between 1914 and 1933. Paris was an exciting place in the years leading up to World War II, when Art Deco style and swinging good times were in vogue just as in the United States.
His later works in the 1920\’s were influenced by his interest in Egypt, after the excavation of the Pharoah Tutankhmen\’s tomb. Some of his most exciting works are dancers taken from the Russian Ballet, French theatre, and early motion pictures. Dancers were captured in movement, dressed in high art deco style and long and lean in appearance. Demetre Chiparus worked primarily with the Etling Foundry in Paris, and he died in Pairs in 1947.
Being bronze this will last forever without rusting and hence is a great investment as it will always appreciate in value. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing and nice to look at they can also become heirlooms.
