Bronze Casting Of Apollo Figurine Bronzes Classical

CLICK HERE TO BUY THIS BRONZE CASTING OF APOLLO FIGURINE BRONZES CLASSICAL ON CANONBURY ANTIQUES

Bronze Casting Of Apollo Figurine Bronzes Classical

Bronze Casting Of Apollo Figurine Bronzes Classical

You are viewing an impressive bronze casting depicting the son of Zeus in Greek mythology, Apollo. Apollo is depicted wearing a tunic round his body and his trademark garland of flowers in his hair.

The piece is cast from the finest brown bronze which has a lovely patina to it. The piece sits on a square tiered base of black streaked marble. There is bronze beaded braiding to the top of the marble. This would be a great decorative item for your home and as it is offered in perfect condition it is ready for home use right away.

Apollo, in Greek mythology, son of the god Zeus and Leto, daughter of a Titan. He was also called Delian, after Delos, the island of his birth, and Pythian, after his killing of Python, the fabled serpent that guarded a shrine on the mountains of Parnassus. In Homeric legend Apollo was primarily a god of prophecy. His most important oracle was at Delphi, the site of his victory over the Python. He sometimes gave the gift of prophecy to mortals whom he loved, such as the Trojan princess Cassandra.

Apollo was a gifted musician, who delighted the gods with his performance on the lyre. He was also a master archer and a fleet-footed athlete, credited with having been the first victor in the Olympic games. His twin sister, Artemis, was the guardian of young women, and Apollo was the special protector of young men. He was also the god of agriculture and cattle, and of light and truth. He taught humans the art of healing.

Some tales depict Apollo as pitiless and cruel. According to the Iliad by Homer, Apollo answered the prayers of the priest Chryses to obtain the release of his daughter from the Greek general Agamemnon by shooting fiery, pestilence-carrying arrows into the Greek army. He also abducted and ravished the young Athenian princess Creusa and abandoned her and the child born to them. Perhaps because of his physical beauty, Apollo was represented in ancient art more frequently than any other deity.

The making of bronzes is a complicated process and this can lead to the high cost of some bronzes but it is something to be appreciated and as an item will retain its value. The entire process of making a bronze can take anywhere from six weeks to four months to produce a single piece.

As you can see, each bronze is truly unique because of the hands on labor that is involved, even if it is one of an edition. The sculpture is a result of a marriagebetween the artist and the foundry. This ancient process produces a bronze sculpture that will last for generations to come. What a treasure!

This piece has been made using the lost wax technique. The original model would have been made using clay or plaster. Over this a thin layer of wax would have been covered and then around this more clay. This would then be put in the oven and the wax would melt creating the space for the molten bronze to be poured into, once this had set the clay could be broken away and you would be left with the bronze casting. Hence the wax is lost in the process. It’s is the oldest and most timely method of creating bronze sculptures and figurines.

CLICK HERE TO BUY THIS BRONZE DECO CHIPARUS EGYPTIAN WOMAN FIGURINE BELLY DANCER ON CANONBURY ANTIQUES

Bronze Deco Chiparus Egyptian Woman Figurine Belly Dancer

Bronze Deco Chiparus Egyptian Woman Figurine Belly Dancer

You are viewing a gorgeous bronze casting depicting a young lady sitting cross legged in a yoga meets Egyptian type pose. We believe this to be a casting from a Chiparus bronze. The lady is semi naked and wears conical covers over her breasts as she folds her hands behind her head.

She looks like she could be a belly dancer – her mid riff is exposed and she has very decorative pants on and an intricate head dress. Of course, the piece is art deco in style as the 1920s was the time of important discoveries in Egypt which influenced the global psyche in general and the art world in particular.

She sits on a black marble base. It really is a stunning eye catching piece and would look great in your home, adding style and elegance to any interiors scheme. She is offered in perfect condition ready for home use right away.

Bronze Art Deco Casting Eternal Friends By Chiparus

CLICK HERE TO BUY THIS BRONZE ART DECO CASTING ETERNAL FRIENDS BY CHIPARUS ON CANONBURY ANTIQUES

Bronze Art Deco Casting Eternal Friends By Chiparus

Bronze Art Deco Casting Eternal Friends By Chiparus

This is based in the US where we will ship from please email for shipping quotes. You are viewing an exquisite bronze casting of ‘Friends Forever’ (or ‘Eternal Friends’) by DH Chiparus – also know as Eternal Friends. I hope the photos go some way in conveying the beauty to this piece, it’s certainly better in the flesh. Chiparus was one of the most famous sculptors associated with the art deco movement and this is a later recasting of one of his best works. Please note, this is at our US office which is where it will ship from, which is good news for US customers as it’s a heavy piece and not so far to travel.

True to the art deco aesthetic, the piece has a wonderful symmetry and balance. The two borzoi dogs stand either side of the young lady clad in typical 20s attire. The piece has been cast from polychrome bronze so each section has different colours, silver for the dogs, red for her dress, brown for her face. The piece in turn stands on a black tiered marble base which is signed at the back, please see close up photo.

This is offered in perfect condition ready for home use right away and we will ship this to anywhere in the world.

Chiparus: Born in Romania and lived in Paris studying under A Boucher and J. Boucher. He exhibited at the salon from 1914. His later works in the 1920s were influenced by the interest in Egypt after the excavation of the Pharoahs’ tombes. He based many works on the ballet and the theatre, one particular theme being the Ballet Russe, from which resulted the Russian Dancers.
