Solid Silver & Marcasite Art Deco Lady Walking Her Dog

 

This is a beautiful solid silver brooch in the form of a lady walking her dog. The lady and her dog has sparkly marcasite finish, the dog has a marcasite collar. There is a silver leash dividing the lady and dog. The back of the brooch is hallmarked ‘925’. The brooch fastens with a roll over clasp. A fabulous addition to an outfit. This brooch is offered in excellent condition.

The Art Deco artistic movement first appeared in France after the First World War and remained prominent until the Second World War. Art Deco is characterised by bold shapes and strong lines. Geometrics was a huge influence on Art Deco jewellery with circles, rectangles, squares and triangles being a regular feature.

Vintage Designer Napier Silver Tone Poodle Brooch

 

A beautiful vintage designer Napier brooch. The brooch is in the shape of a Poodle dog and has a rotating head. The dog has a white rhinestone studded collar and pink gemstone for its eyes. The back of the dog is signed ‘Napier’. This is a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. The brooch fastens with a roll over clasp.

Length of Brooch: 3cm

Napier goes back to the late 19th-century, when the E. A. Bliss company made silverware, as well as gilt and silverplate jewellery, the word Napier was not associated with costume jewelry until the 1920s. The company made Egyptian Revival necklaces, earrings, and other pieces during the 1920s (among other styles), excelling in metalwork accented by faux stones. By the end of the 1930s, movie stars such as Sonja Henie and Lana Turner were wearing Napier.

I have on offer a stunning solid silver and plique a jour enamel fairy brooch. The plique a jour enamel looks so elegant when it catches the natural daylight. The fairy’s wings has marcasite detail around the edges. The back of the brooch is hallmarked ‘925’ and fastens via a roll over clasp. The brooch is in perfect condition. 

Dimensions: 4.8cm x 4.8cm

plique-à-jour is a French term in the decorative arts. Plique a jour is a technique producing translucent enamels held in an open framework made by soldering individual wires or delicate metal strips to each other, rather than to a supporting surface as in cloisonné. The unattached support, usually a sheet of metal or mica, can be easily removed after the enamels have been annealed and cooled, producing an effect not unlike a stained-glass window in miniature. Developed in France and Italy in the 14th century, this technique has been used largely for making vessels, jewelry, and, in Russia, demitasse spoons.
