The clock – in bronze and gilt – features a statue of George Washington, the first American President

The gilt base is equally impressive, showing details like serpent feet, wheat sheafs, rococo curls, shell motifs and elaborate cartouche

Origin France
George Washington was the first President of the United States (1789–1797) and commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War
