Charles Sykes Art Deco Bronze Hoop Girl

Charles Sykes Art Deco Bronze Hoop Girl

You are viewing a gorgeous silvered bronze casting depicting an art deco figurine holding a hoop aloft. The piece is signed ‘Charles’ on the base and this is a piece by Charles Skyes. Sykes is perhaps most famous for coming up with the Rolls Royce ‘Spirit of Ecstacy’ emblem which stood on the hood / bonnet of the car. That was also a silvered bronze. This is a recast from the original and is offered in great shape.

The piece we have here is an almost archetypal example of a the 1920s idealised female form and art deco aesethetic. The lithe female wears a figure hugging cress which fans out via her pleats. She holds her arms aloft to hold up the hoop and she has her head back seductively.

The quality to the casting is incredible as I hope the photos illustrate. She stands firmly on the black tiered marble base which has been polished and is smooth to touch. We bought this piece from a dealer in London’s Camden Passage.

Charles Sykes – Rolls Royce Bronze Spirt of Ecstasy / Flying Lady
