Spectacular Victorian Plum Pudding Mahogany Kidney Shaped Writing Desk.
Standing on tapered legs with boxwood inlays and spade feet.
Each of the graduated oak lined drawers having original locks and gilt cast handles (note the fine hand cut dovetails)
Circa 1880
The crossbanded top with boxwood line Inlays, the green leather writing surface (replacement) features gilt and blind tooling.
This piece is freestanding and in excellent condition. The whole desk is decorated with satinwood crossbanded panels.
Note:Plum Pudding Mahogany so called because the blemishes in the grain resemble raisins in a plum pudding and is widely regarded as the finest grade of Mahogany Veneers available at the time of manufacture.
