Pair XL Chinese Nanking Porcelain Vases Urns Ceramic
You are viewing an incredible pair of Nanking style blue and white Chinese porcelain urns that stand in at an over an impressive seven foot tall (223 CM). These really are an amazing pair and features the blue painted details and designs on the white glazed background typical to Nanking porcelain. I hope the photos do them some justice, they are certainly better in the flesh. I have included a photo of an assistant in one of the shots to give an idea of scale. These are big!
The designs are all hand painted and feature various figures in typical Chinese settings plus other Eastern patterns and shapes. It’s incredible when you think how long these would have taken to craft. Both urns are offered in perfect condition ready for home use right away.
Pinyin Nanjing Chinese blue-and-white porcelain made for export during the Qing dynasty (especially in the reign of Kangxi, 1661–1722) at Jingdezhen. It was shipped to Europe in great quantity from the port of Nanking (Nanjing); as a result, Western dealers in the 19th century used the city’s name when referring to the porcelain.
Though the porcelain was made for export, the shapes and decoration were mostly from Chinese traditions. The porcelain varied in quality; the glaze could become very gray and the decoration was often rudimentary. Much of the polychrome porcelain known as “Canton ware” was actually produced in white at Nanking and sent to Canton for painting. English potters extensively copied and adapted Nanking decoration.
