Sheraton Mahogany Sideboard Buffet Server Inlay
You are viewing a gorgeous marquetry mahogany sideboard in the Sheraton manner. It’s both a practical and decorative piece. They are great for displaying vases of flowers on, perhaps in an entrance hallway, and with the storage (two cupboards, two drawers) they are also good for storing items away from sight.
The piece is very elegant with the slimline legs and the curve to front of the desk and is the height of craftmanship. It’s mind boggling when you think of the amount of work that goes into making something like this – especially the marquetry work where the individual designs have to be cut from softer wood and then embedded into the main wood of the structure.

George Hepplewhite (d.1786) war ein englischer Schrank und Möbeltischler, ein Vertreter der neo-klassischen Stil, bekannt für seine “Cabinet Maker und bekannte Polsterer Guide” veröffentlichte im Jahre 1788. Es enthielt 300 Entwürfe durch Einfachheit, Eleganz und Nützlichkeit. Angeregt durch die Ausgrabungen in Pompeji und Herculaneum, Neo Klassizismus hatte, von den 1770er Jahren entstand die dominierende Architekturstil in Europa geworden.
In Großbritannien, vielleicht der Linie Exponent dieser Stil war Robert Adams – wer einen großen Einfluss auf Hepplewhite war. Hepplewhite war bekannt für seine berühmten Stühlen. Hepplewhite Stühle haben einen leichten Einfachheit, mit der Oberfläche Ornament und Malerei anstelle der schwereren geschnitzten Verzierung der früheren Perioden. Viele Stühle hatten Hepplewhite Schild-förmigen Rücken mit splats in Form von Weizen-Garben, Prince of Wales Federn oder Leiern. Beine waren gerade und verjüngt, in der Regel in Spaten Füßen. Die neo-klassischen Stil Heppelwhite Stühle und andere Möbel sind ideal für zeitgenössisches Interieur und damit Zeitraum Stücke sind sehr begehrt.
